Australia: Tropical Marine Ecology

May 28 - June 30, 1997*

A one-month field course to the Northeast coastal regions of Australia to study coastal and island ecosystems and the relationships of marine organisms to their environment within these ecosystems.

The Australearn Gallery

The program will begin in the city of Brisbane. Traveling northward, we will be stopping at selected sites along the Northeast coast of Queensland. The course includes major stays at three unique island ecosystems: Stradbroke Island, Orpheus Island and Cape Heron Island (a coral cay located in the Great Barrier Reef). The Cape Tribulation Rain Forest, a World Heritage Rain Forest, will also be visited.

There will be ample opportunities for snorkeling, SCUBA diving, reef walking, nature photography, and hiking.

The course will be taught by Australian faculty who have been chosen for their knowledge and their genuine interest in specific subject areas. Professor Goldberg, from Southampton College, will lead and coordinate the course. He has been to Australia on numerous occasions leading trips and studying toxic and venomous marine organisms. This is his fourth time leading the course.

Summer by the Sea

The Masters Workshop in Art was an incredible experience. I was able to focus and organize my creativity. The atmosphere was breathtakingly inspirational. I enjoyed myself so much that I decided to stay here and am now working and living here.
...Andrea Boness,
Sag Harbor, NY (formerly of Chicago, Ill.)
Southampton College of Long Island University offers a unique opportunity to the motivated artist, teacher or student to further develop their creative processing in an environment which has attracted, inspired and produced some of the most prominent artists and important American art of the 20th century.

Drawing from this impressive resource of artists and professionals involved in the arts, the Master Workshop provides a rare and valuable insight into the art world in an intensive yet informal atmosphere.

Field trips to participating artists’ studios and several regional art institutions provide the participants with first-hand experience and information which will be enhanced by lectures, demonstrations and presentations by visiting artists, scholars and art professionals.

Artists in Residence will return weekly to discuss and critique participants’ progress in the painting and sculpture studios overlooking Shinnecock Bay and the Atlantic Ocean.

The Master Workshop in Art provided me the opportunity to learn, to think, to listen, to see, to speak and most importantly to work and grow as an artist.
