The program will begin in the city of Brisbane. Traveling northward, we will be stopping at selected sites along the Northeast coast of Queensland. The course includes major stays at three unique island ecosystems: Stradbroke Island, Orpheus Island and Cape Heron Island (a coral cay located in the Great Barrier Reef). The Cape Tribulation Rain Forest, a World Heritage Rain Forest, will also be visited.
There will be ample opportunities for snorkeling, SCUBA diving, reef walking, nature photography, and hiking.
The course will be taught by Australian faculty who have been chosen for their knowledge and their genuine interest in specific subject areas. Professor Goldberg, from Southampton College, will lead and coordinate the course. He has been to Australia on numerous occasions leading trips and studying toxic and venomous marine organisms. This is his fourth time leading the course.
Tropical Marine Ecology is being offered May 28 to June 30 under the combined auspices of Southampton College of Long Island University and Central Queensland University.
A special application is required.

The Masters Workshop in Art was an incredible experience. I was able to focus and organize my creativity. The atmosphere was breathtakingly inspirational. I enjoyed myself so much that I decided to stay here and am now working and living here. ...Andrea Boness, Sag Harbor, NY (formerly of Chicago, Ill.) |
Drawing from this impressive resource of artists and professionals involved in the arts, the Master Workshop provides a rare and valuable insight into the art world in an intensive yet informal atmosphere.
Field trips to participating artists’ studios and several regional art institutions provide the participants with first-hand experience and information which will be enhanced by lectures, demonstrations and presentations by visiting artists, scholars and art professionals.
Artists in Residence will return weekly to discuss and critique participants’ progress in the painting and sculpture studios overlooking Shinnecock Bay and the Atlantic Ocean.

The Master Workshop in Art provided me the opportunity to learn, to think, to listen, to see, to speak and most importantly to work and grow as an artist. ...Brad Cushman, Southeast Oklahoma State University, Chair of Art Department |

Experience the past, the present, and the future of photography in an environment of great natural beauty, while working with some of today’s most respected photographers.
This is a workshop for photographers taught by professionals. During each of the four weeks of the workshop, several different aspects of photography will be covered through a series of one-credit courses. Topics for workshops change from year to year. Some of the areas covered may include one or more of the following:
To ensure a quality experience for each participant, enrollment will be strictly limited. Students
should have a portfolio of work available for review at the first class session. A working knowledge of
35mm cameras and darkroom techniques is required.
Southampton College is one of the
few schools in the country to offer
an
undergraduate program in
Marine Science. The excellence of
the program is nationally
recognized. The College was
selected from more than 1,500
institutions nationwide to be
included in the 1996 edition
of the Peterson's Guide Book,
Top Colleges for Science.
Literally on the doorstep of the
Atlantic, the College is within
walking distance of Shinnecock
Bay and less than a mile from the
Atlantic Ocean. A fully equipped
Marine Station on Shinnecock Bay,
which includes a fleet of research
vessels and running sea water,
facilitates hands-on research and
explorations of the surrounding
marine environment.
Students in all workshops will work closely with the skilled professionals who teach the course.
Student writing will be read and discussed in class, and instructors will provide individual attention. In
addition, all workshop participants will have the chance to meet and talk with the visiting authors in the
Writers and Writing series.
All writing workshops are scheduled during the afternoon. None overlaps, so that students may
take one, two, or three workshops during the conference. Talks in the Writers on Writing program will take
place in the evening. Each talk will be followed by informal discussion between the author and the audience
and will end with a reception.
