Southampton College

Frequently Asked Admissions Questions

What do I need to get in?
The Admissions Committee considers SAT scores and high school averages in the formulation of its decisions. In addition, personal interviews are a very important dimension of the admission process. (Refer to our Freshman Profile for a more precise definition of the student who is admitted and enrolls at Southampton.)

How important are the SATs?
SATs are important, but they are only one of several criteria employed in the admission process. Applicants with low scores are not automatically rejected nor are high scores automatically accepted.

When should I apply?
There is no admissions deadline.

When will I hear from you?
Usually within two weeks after all requirements for admission have been completed. If it is going to be longer, we will let you know. If we have your records, you can obtain an instant decision by phone. Call 1 800 LIU PLAN (within the U.S.).

Do I need an interview?
Admission to college is a very personal process. We need to know who you are and you need to know who we are. Both of these needs are satisfied when a personal interview takes place. The interview is really more of an information exchange than a "we ask, you answer" situation. A good interview is a dialogue, which, when it is over, results in both parties knowing and understanding the other more completely. The interview is a very important aspect of getting into Southampton Graduate Campus.
