Coming into the 2001-2002 season, Southampton College's 6-foot-1 sophomore center Jen Geiger decided that her goal was to break a school record.

Although she initially was aiming for the highest number of blocks in a season, a number that she was one shy of last year when she had 40, she broke two school records on January 9, 2002, when the Lady Colonials hosted conference foe Bridgeport.

Geiger shattered the school single-game scoring mark with 41 points. The record had previously been held by Meegan McGuire, who in February 1992 scored 36 points vs. Mercy. McGuire also had held the record for the most field goals made in a game with 13. But, Geiger broke that record too, as she was 19-for-24 from the field.

Head coach Jim Meyer says, "What makes this scoring record so amazing is that Jen did it while on a very talented and balanced team."

Meyer notes that Geiger is a team player on a squad that has "numerous players capable of scoring 20 points on any given night." The Lady Colonials were able to read the Lady Purple Knight defense and, as a result, continually broke down the press and passed the ball to Geiger, who kept hitting. The Colonials won 96-66.

Geiger has put up notable statistics in every game this season. Against Molloy on November 29, she contributed 25 points and 13 boards that led Southampton to a 77-67 victory. She had 12 points and 10 rebounds when the Lady Colonials defeated Mercy 81-64 on December 8. When the team suffered a loss by only one point to Merrimack (65-66) on December 15, Geiger contributed eight points, seven boards and two blocks.

Last season, as a freshman, Geiger's bests were 20 points against NYIT on January 22 and 13 rebounds versus Adelphi on February 21. She totaled 245 points for the 2000-01 season. Geiger also blocked 40 shots, nearing a record that was set by current assistant coach and former All-Metro star Rita Breivaite (41 blocked shots in 1998-99).

Meyer notes, "Jen is looking to score in the high teens every game and continue to rebound and block shots. She is all about team success and winning."
