America in the 30's, the rise of fascism, the Spanish Civil War, and the events leading up to World War II will be discussed by one who lived it, Art Munday, during the next Merit Fellows Lecture titled American History: Lost Chapter of Shame on Wednesday, November 29, at 9 p.m. in the Fine Arts Theatre at Southampton Campus. The legacy of Barbie, the Mattel toy that started life as a sleazy German doll then evolved into an international marketing phenomenon and cultural icon, will be discussed by M.G. Lord on Monday, December 4, at 9 p.m. in the Fine Arts Theatre. Ms. Lord is the author of Forever Barbie: The Unauthorized Biography of a Real Doll.
Dr. Sandy McIntosh, author of numerous poetry collections and essays will read excerpts and discuss the issues raised on Wednesday, December 6, at 5 p.m. in the Fine Arts Threatre. Dr. McIntosh is editor of Confrontation, the national literary magazine published by Long Island University. He is a 1970 alumnus of the Southampton Campus.
