AUSTRALEARN: TROPICAL MARINE ECOLOGY IN THE SOUTH PACIFIC

Tropical Marine Ecology, a one-month travel and field study course in Australia will be offered again through Long Island University's Southampton Campus and AustraLearn, the U.S. Center for Australian Universities. This year the curriculum will include four weeks of travel, July 4 through August 1, to the remote western coast of Australia and the Northern Territory where students will cover a diversity of coastal as well as inland ecosystems. Travel will begin in Perth then proceed north to conclude in Darwin.
Now in its third year, the course will be taught by Australian faculty, chosen for their knowledge of and genuine interest in specific subject areas. Southampton Professor Art Goldberg will lead the course. He has been to Australia on numerous occasions leading trips and studying marine organisms in the coastal waters there.
Some of the areas to be studied are the Pinnacles Desert, Kalahari Gorge, the Shark Bay region, Ningaloo Reef, Windjana Gorge National Park, Geike Gorge, Tunnel Creek, Katherine Gorge and Kakadu National Park, a world heritage park. There will be ample opportunity for snorkeling, diving, reef walking, wild life observation, hiking, and nature photography.
The course fees excluding airfare to Australia are $3,550. This includes accommodations, meals, boat trips, park fees, and travel in Australia.
