Arvind Borde, Chuck Hitchock Named Full Professors at Southampton Graduate Campus

Southampton, NY -- Arvind Borde, a Professor of Mathematics, and Charles Hitchcock, a Professor of Sociology, each have been named full professors at Southampton Graduate Campus of Long Island University, Academic Dean Wayne Miller has announced.
Dr. Arvind Borde, an astrophysicist and an expert in digital document design, received the University's Trustees Award for Scholarly Achievement in December 1996. He also is the webmaster for Southampton Graduate Campus' internet site, http://www.southampton.liunet.edu. The web site, called "innovative" by The New York Times, has been described as one of the finest among colleges and universities.
He recently was profiled in The New York Times after co-authoring a paper one physicist termed "conclusive" that points to a moment 10-20 billion years ago when time began. The native of Bombay, India, is married to Rosanne DiStefano, who also is an astrophysicist.
Dr. Borde, who is a visiting professor at Tufts University, earned his academic degrees from the University of Bombay, and SUNY Stony Brook.
Dr. Charles Hitchcock celebrated his 30th year as a member of the College faculty in May 1997. During his tenure, he has served as Director of the Social Science Division, and currently is chair of the Faculty Council. He resides in East Hampton with his companion, David Wilt.
Dr. Hitchcock is a member of the Southampton Graduate Campus Institute for Regional Research, and a member of the University faculty senate. For six years, from 1986-93, Hitchcock chaired the Zoning Board of Appeals for the Town of East Hampton.
In the 1970s and again in the 1990s, Hitchcock also has served as Head Coach of the men's tennis team. In 1997, the team's 5-4 record in the New York Collegiate Athletic Conference represented the first winning season in the program's history.
Dr. Hitchock earned his A.B. from Colgate University, his Masters from New York University, and his Ph.D. from Union Graduate School.
