If you
are an aspiring artist or are interested in teaching art,
you're in the right place. Choose from the B.A. in Fine
Art or the B.F.A. in Art, both based on a preliminary
common core of art courses, followed by the option of concentrating
in either drawing/ painting or photography, or pursuing
a more varied approach in several media. Studio concentrations
allow you to explore techniques and develop style and discipline
while studying closely with our gifted professors, many
of whom have exhibited their works world-wide. If you prefer
to explore additional electives while majoring in Studio
Art, choose the B.A. program.
If
you are interested in pursuing a career in commercial art,
you should elect the B.F.A. in Art with a concentration
in Graphic Design. This option explores every aspect
of the field from the history of design to print production,
computer graphics, photography and typography giving you
a broad base of knowledge for greater career flexibility.
Our
B.F.A. in Art with a concentration in Photography
offers you the option of focusing your studies on the field
of photography, with strong creative and technical experiences
in the studio as well as a wide variety of internships.
If
you are interested in teaching art in grades "K-12",
the B.S. in Art "K-12" Teacher will prepare
you to sit for the New York State Teacher Certification
Examination. Start with a core of fundamental art classes
including drawing, sculpture, art history, computer graphics
and painting followed by courses in Developmental Psychology,
Educational Psychology, Classroom Management, Methods of
Teaching, and Foundations in Education.
