If education
is your passion, Southampton offers a wide variety of undergraduate
programs in the field. Whether you are interested in generalizing
in elementary education, or prefer to specialize in a particular
subject, we provide the comprehensive curriculum and hands-on
learning experience you'll need to succeed in the classrooms
of the future.
Major
requirements of the B.A. in Elementary Education
cover a broad range of integrated topics including Developmental
Psychology, Classroom Management, Computers for Teachers,
and Teaching Exceptional Students. Throughout your course
of study you will have the opportunity to observe and teach
in public schools, and at the Children's School, our on-campus
nursery program. Your educational experience will culminate
in a full semester of teaching in a local public school.
For
those who prefer to teach a specific subject, Southampton
offers four options: the B.S. in Art "K-12"
Teacher, the B.A. in Biology "7-12",
B.A. in English "7-12"
and B.A. in Social Studies "7-12".
The B.S. in Art "K-12"
Teacher develops your artistic sense using a wide range
of media and provides the teaching methods and techniques
you'll need to stimulate and inspire creativity in your
students.
The
B.A. in Biology "7-12",
B.A. in English "7-12,"
and B.A. in Social Studies "7-12"
provide a broad foundation of generalized educational coursework
in addition to intense concentration in the area of specialization.
The B.S. in Art "K-12" Teacher and the
three Secondary Education degree programs also offer a variety
of interesting student teaching opportunities.
