Hands-on Learning Abroad
Learning beyond the classroom is more than an option at Southampton; it's a priority! Our goal is to provide you with an excellent education while ensuring you gain the hands-on experience you'll need to succeed. These pages are just a glimpse of the experiential learning programs we offer abroad.

FRIENDS WORLD PROGRAM The Friends World Program, with seven sites world-wide in • China • Japan • Costa Rica • Israel • England •India and • North America, offers a unique opportunity for students interested in combining experiential learning with international study. The program, whose North American Center is based on the Southampton Graduate Campus campus, has its own admissions office, recruiting students from around the globe. A four-year B.A. degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, requiring study in at least two of the Program's overseas centers is offered to full-time students. Visiting students from other colleges including Southampton Graduate Campus have the option of participating in the Program for a semester, or a year-long multi-site program in Comparative Religion and Culture (CRC). Participants in CRC explore the relationship between the religions and cultures of Taiwan, India, and Israel, traveling to each region for direct experience and study.

Students who attend for one semester are based at the regional center of their choice for language training, area studies, and seminars on topics of current interest. Those who choose to continue on for a second semester in the region develop an individualized course of study including applied fieldwork with their advisors.

Friends World students not only pursue academic coursework, but also make a personal commitment to increased intercultural understanding and greater community service. In order to earn credit, students meet regularly with their academic advisor and, at the end of the semester, present a portfolio that documents their learning.

Exchange Programs
Southampton College has formal exchange programs with the University of Southampton (England), the Winchester School of Art (England) and University of Miskolc (Hungary).

Participating students may spend a semester studying science, art, psychology, film/video, or other academic programs. This exchange provides Southampton Graduate Campus students with another exciting opportunity to live and learn in a different culture.
