The L.I.U. Plan
To help you achieve success in college, your career and your life, Southampton offers the innovative and award-winning Long Island University Plan, a comprehensive program of counseling and practical experiences that draws on the resources of the entire University to address every major student concern: academic, personal, financial and career.

The Freshman Program
All Southampton freshmen are registered for College 101 (Intro to College). This one - semester course serves to familiarize freshmen with the many resources at Southampton and gives students a forum to discuss pertinent topics ranging from time management to substance abuse. The College 101 instructor is the academic advisor to the students in the class, and is an excellent resource throughout the first year and beyond.

The Honors Program
Academically and intellectually motivated students in all disciplines may join the Honors Program, which offers an exciting and challenging supplement to the undergraduate curriculum. Honors program students write theses based on independent research, often in conjunction with an internship. The Honors Program and the Honors Society sponsor such activities as trips and community service projects.

The Cooperative Education Program
Through the co-op program you can earn academic credit and a salary while working at a job related to your studies. A staff of trained counselors will work with you to choose the placement that gives you the best possible career preparation. Our co-op students have held jobs in 32 states and 17 foreign countries. Eighty percent receive offers of permanent employment from their co-op employers.

The Internship Program The Internship Program plays an active role in supporting the College's emphasis on experiential learning and research as an integral part of academic life. Over 1,000 Southampton students in all majors have traveled the country and abroad to participate in a research internship.

Internships are viewed as culminating work experiences enabling upperclassmen to directly apply knowledge and training learned in the classroom.
