B.F.A. in Communications
The Communication Arts program offers an integrated cross-disciplinary
course of study that provides you with the knowledge and skills
needed to compete and succeed in the exploding field of communications.
Because it draws from the whole range of the College curriculum,
the program offers courses taught by distinguished professionals
in broadcasting, business, film, television, journalism, creative
writing, and social sciences.
The B.F.A. in Communication Arts offers you a choice
of specializations in radio and television, advertising/public
relations, or theater/film. You can also minor in Web
Development or Web Design.
On campus, you'll have access to our television production
facility giving you the opportunity to learn all aspects of
television, field and studio production. The facility includes
a professional Avid film and video editing system and state-of-the-art
digital audio and video equipment.
Our new Tech Center's Island Room boasts 20 Silicon Graphics
workstations, a dedicated server, high-end peripheral devices,
and the latest software releases enabling students in every
major to do electronic film editing and to produce animation.
Communication Arts also operates a radio teaching laboratory
to prepare you for participation on Southampton Graduate Campus'
two radio stations; WLIU-AM, a student-operated station, and
WPBX - 88.3FM, Long Island's second most powerful radio station,
a National Public Radio affiliate offering a wide range of
programming. You'll receive a solid foundation in communication
skills and liberal studies with intensive training in your
area of concentration.
