M.F.A. in English and Writing
Southampton offers both undergraduate and graduate degrees
in English and Writing. Whether you are interested in writing
for fiction, the screen, stage, television, business or the
Web, you will enjoy the benefit of being taught by some of the
country's top writers, journalists and communications professionals.
These gifted men and women who make their homes in the surrounding
towns often teach classes or participate in on campus lectures
and seminars.
The B.A. in English and Writing offers an option
of concentrating in either writing or literature. The writing
concentration explores various forms of creative expression
through coursework in fiction, poetry, prose, journalism and
drama. The literature concentration focuses primarily on American,
English and Continental literature. Prospective teachers of
English can combine this major concentration with a Secondary
Education minor to prepare them to sit for the New York State
Teacher Certification Examination.
The 36 credit M.F.A. in English and Writing offers
the small class size and individualized attention needed to
explore your creativity and develop your writing style. Admission
to the program is based on the evaluation of a writing portfolio
in conjunction with the review of your entire academic record.
The Southampton Graduate Campus Summer Writers Conference, which
includes lectures, readings and workshops featuring nationally
distinguished authors, is open to all students.
